Darryl N. Williams, Ph.D.
Executive Director
Darryl Williams comes to us from the “Land of Enchantment,” better known as New Mexico, where he was born and raised in Albuquerque. Science has always been an integral part of his life, which led him to pursue a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Hampton University and a doctorate in the same from the University of Maryland. Shortly after completing his doctorate, he served as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in pediatric cardiology research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
But his gifts in bench science couldn’t match his love for advocacy, and in 2004, he started the LifeModem Foundation, which is dedicated to providing cancer awareness to underserved communities, including support for investigators who seek to understand the scientific relevance of certain cancers among African Americans. LifeModem strives to increase the presence of African American investigators in basic and clinical research.
Darryl was Project iNSPIRE’s very first Scienteer, and he enjoyed the experience so much that he decided to turn his volunteer experience into his career! He became the Executive Director in 2006. His commitment to addressing the underrepresentation of minorities in science serves as the guidebook to managing iPRAXIS’ daily operations and overseeing the development and growth of the organization.
