We have big challenges facing us in the 21st
century - conquering diseases, eliminating hunger, and providing a better
quality of life for all people. At iPRAXIS, we feel that we need every scientific
brain working to overcome these challenges - not just the people who have
been doing it in the past. We must ensure that every budding scientist in our
schools today maximizes their potential to be tomorrow's great inventor.
We are professionals and volunteers. We are
scientists and teachers. And we believe that the only thing standing between a
student and their potential is opportunity, exposure, and access.
iPRAXIS provides opportunity, exposure, and
access through science education.
iPRAXIS has brought our network of nearly 150 volunteer scientists and
technology professionals - whom we call "Scienteers" - to more
students.
We work with some of the most underserved schools in Philadelphia. The
students at our partner schools get to work one-on-one with these professionals
to see how science and technology impact their lives and see what's happening
on the cutting edge of innovation in the labs and research centers right here
in Philadelphia.
Our Scienteers are also there for the teachers at these schools, providing
meaningful, professional development opportunities. They become partners in
implementing engaging new science learning opportunities both in the
classroom and beyond.
iPRAXIS is designed to excite our students - most of whom come from
under-served minority communities -- about the promise science and technology
offers to address the problems we face in the 21st century... and make sure
these students see their role and place within the larger picture.
