Project iNSPIRE has already brought our network
of nearly 100 volunteer scientists and technology professionals – whom
we call “Scienteers” – to more than 500 students in the School
District of Philadelphia.
The students at our partner schools – Lea Elementary, Bryant Elementary,
Strawberry Mansion High School, and West Philadelphia High School – get
to work one-on-one with these professionals to see how science and technology
impact their lives and see what’s happening on the cutting edge of innovation
in the labs and research centers right here in their own neighborhoods.
Our Scienteers are also there for the teachers at these schools, providing
meaningful professional development opportunities. They become partners
in implementing engaging new science learning opportunities both in the classroom
and beyond.
Project iNSPIRE is designed to excite our students – most of whom come
from underserved minority communities – about the promise science offers
to address the problems we face in the 21st century…and make sure these
students see their role and place within it.
