Project iNSPIRE: Students
We firmly believe the first person to walk on Mars, or cure cancer, or develop a clean source of energy is alive today. In fact, she or he could be sitting in a classroom right here in Philadelphia. All that student needs is to spark an interest in science to start them down the right path.
Project iNSPIRE is here to make sure that happens. We take the time to think about what will interest students the most, and we form the partnerships necessary to bring those experiences to them…or to bring students to the experiences. Whether it’s a lesson in aviation from the Black Pilots of America or an exploration of art and robotics at the Esther M. Klein Art Gallery, Project iNSPIRE’s programs bring science to life.
Science and technology volunteers – “Scienteers” – visit students in their classrooms with hands-on experiments in biotechnology, neuroscience, forensic science and so much more. For special projects such as science fairs, students get one-on-one guidance from Scienteer mentors. Students visit laboratories, science centers and universities where they meet working scientists, explore career opportunities and discover how researchers address global medical, nutritional, and social issues through science and technology.
To help guide our work, iPRAXIS is putting together a group of student leaders who excel at and are interested in science. This Council of Future Scientists will make program recommendations to iPRAXIS staff and serve as science ambassadors to their schools.
