Before he came to iPRAXIS, Executive Director Darryl Williams was conducting cutting-edge research on targeted nanoparticle delivery in the Cardiology unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Taking a novel approach to the problem of arterial stent fibrosis, his work applied the principles of magnetism to deliver therapeutic, healing endothelial cells where they're needed most - in the lining of the artery. Further, the technique can potentially be used to tackle a plethora of other medical dilemmas, from targeted gene therapy in the liver to orthopedic reconstruction. Williams is a co-author in this research collaboration among CHOP, Drexel and Duke Universities. Their findings are published this week by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and covered today by The Philadelphia Inquirer. |

Congratulations to our Scienteer of the Year, Jack Treml! We're hard-pressed to put in words the value of the volunteer who goes well beyond the call of duty. In the two years that he has worked on Project iNSPIRE, Jack has served as a science fair judge, a mentor, and a curriculum consultant, and along the way he has helped recruit new Scienteers. He has been a cheerleader and a most gracious critic, helping us to improve the way we deliver this program and think of new ways to make it work effectively. And he's done all this while pursuing his PhD in Immunology at the University of Pennsylvania. |
